A woman is fighting for her life after a crash involving a bicycle and an e-scooter in Welwyn Garden City.

The incident occurred at around 8pm yesterday (July 28), in The Ridgeway.

The bicycle rider, a woman aged in her 40s, was taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries where she remains at this time.

The rider of the e-scooter failed to stop at the scene.

PC Christopher Rowley-Smith, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: "Our enquiries are continuing, and I am appealing for any witnesses to please come forward.

"Were you driving in the area at the time and saw what happened? Additionally, if you have a dash cam fitted, please check it as you may have recorded some crucial footage to assist our investigation. I can be emailed at Christopher.Rowley-Smith@herts.police.uk.

"I would like to remind people that it is currently illegal to ride e-scooters on public land anywhere in Hertfordshire. E-scooters can only be used on private land with the landowner’s permission. While they can be used on public land as part of a government trial, there are no trials taking place anywhere in the county at this time."
