A family-run design and build company based in Hatfield won two awards at a countywide business event.

Woodhouse Workspace, which has its Hatfield HQ in Beaconsfield Road, won both the Property & Construction Project of the Year and the Small to Medium Business of the Year Awards at a glittering business awards ceremony.

The company won Property and Construction Project of the Year at the Inspiring Herts Awards for completing a refurbishment of a new 9,000ft2 support centre for Hollywood Bowl Group in Hemel Hempstead.

Mark Johnson, property director at Hollywood Bowl said: “The new workspace has had a really positive effect – it is a much nicer workspace. More people are working in Hemel, and we no longer need to mandate in-office attendance.”

The other finalists for the Property & Construction Award were Atlas Copco, Green Building Design, Louis de Soissons, and Oaklands College.

Their commitment to ethical supply chains and low waste also helped the company secure Business of the Year Small to Medium category at the awards organised by Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce.

Woodhouse was also a finalist in the Family Business of the Year category.

Matthew Cooper, director of Woodhouse, said: "It is an honour to win these two Inspiring Herts Awards, and be a finalist for a third; a testament to everyone who works with us and has supported us over the last 45 years.

"We pride ourselves on being a leader in our industry; and giving the best possible service to our clients. It is wonderful for the Woodhouse team to be acknowledged for their outstanding effort across all areas of the business.”

The annual Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce awards, now in their 13th year, were presented during a 1920s-themed gala dinner at the Tewinbury Farm Hotel that also celebrated the Chamber’s centenary.

The judges highlighted Woodhouse Workspace’s strong growth story and initiatives demonstrating a holistic approach, including upskilling of staff, as it claimed an awards double.

Chamber CEO Donna Schultz said: “This is a really impressive family-owned business with a half-century of pedigree.

"It has been growing consistently since 1976, apart from a dip during the pandemic, with a customer list that is a who’s who of Hertfordshire Chamber members and brands.

“Woodhouse Workspace’s strong commitment to ethical supply chains and environmental concerns also impressed our judging panel, along with its firm focus on clients and landlords.

"This is clearly a company that understands its market and serves it well, while being as energy efficient as it possibly can be."
