Isabel Hospice is inviting potential volunteers to attend an information session in Welwyn Garden City.

This event, aimed at those thinking of volunteering, promises to be an enlightening experience for anyone considering contributing their time and talents to support the hospice's mission.

"Volunteers are the backbone of Isabel Hospice," said Jessica Baranov, Talent Acquisition Specialist at Isabel Hospice.

"This session is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in volunteering to learn more about what we do, the impact we make, and how they can get involved.

"We hope to inspire many new faces to join our existing 600+ strong volunteer community."

The session will be held at the Living Well Community Hub, Hall Grove, WGC, AL7 4PH from 11am till 1pm on Saturday, August 3.

It is designed to offer a comprehensive overview of the varied volunteering posts available at Isabel Hospice.

Opportunities range from helping in one of Isabel's charity shops or becoming a Compassionate Neighbour to gardening or van driving.

Isabel Hospice relies heavily on the dedication and generosity of its volunteers.

The information session will provide an in-depth look into how volunteers contribute to the hospice's daily operations and long-term goals.

The hospice offers a wide range of volunteering roles to suit different skills, interests, and availability.

During the session, representatives from various departments will be present to discuss specific opportunities, including:

  • Patient Support: Welcoming patients and their families as a receptionist at the inpatient unit (IPU) and assisting with support groups.
  • Retail: Helping in one of the hospice’s shops, sorting donations, pricing items, and customer service. Or listing on the charities eBay shop.
  • Fundraising: Supporting the charity's events and helping with community outreach.
  • Administrative Support: Assisting with office tasks, data entry, and other administrative duties.

The session will also include practical information on the process of becoming a volunteer, including application procedures, training, and the support volunteers can expect to receive from the hospice.

Curious visitors will have the chance to ask questions and sign up on the spot if they decide to take the next step. No prior registration is required, but it is preferred in order to know rough numbers of attendance.

"Volunteering with Isabel Hospice is not just about giving your time; it's about being part of a compassionate community that makes a real difference in people's lives," added Jessica.

"We encourage anyone who is curious or interested to come along, ask questions, and see if this is the right fit for them."

For those that can’t attend, there will be another session held via Zoom on Thursday September 26 at 6pm.
