The family of a former Welwyn Garden City and Colney Heath footballer are desperately appealing for information, amid fears he was a victim of a double murder in Sweden.

Juan Cifuentes, 33, had travelled to Scandinavia alongside Farooq Abdulrazak, 37, for a business trip, and the pair were expected to return on Sunday.

On the same day, two bodies were found inside a burning car in an industrial area in the city of Malmo, with emergency workers making the grim discovery when they extinguished the flames.

According to Swedish media, one victim was found with a possible bullet wound and that both are British, although police are yet to formally identify them.

Another outlet is reporting that the Toyota Rav 4, which was later found burnt out, had been rented from Denmark's Copenhagen airport, with CCTV showing three people inside the vehicle when it drove over the Oresund Bridge into Sweden.

"The two people who were found dead in a burnt-out car on Sunday afternoon have not yet been identified," Swedish police said on Tuesday.

"The bodies are being examined by forensic medicine. The incident is currently being investigated as a murder.

"Several witnesses have been interviewed and the police are interested in further observations and tips."

A spokesman for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: "We are supporting the families of two British men reported missing in Sweden and are in touch with the local authorities."
