The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning covering Hertfordshire with heavy rain and possible thunder forecast.

Outbreaks of heavy downpours are expected to develop later this afternoon (July 15) with the alert in place between 3pm today and 9am tomorrow.

There is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services, the forecaster warned, along with a “small chance” that homes and businesses could be flooded.

Cancellations to train and bus services are possible while roads could also be affected.

The Met Office wrote on its website: “Outbreaks of rain, heavy at times with a risk of thunder, are expected to develop later on Monday afternoon then move northwards through the evening and overnight.

“15 to 20mm rain may fall in less than an hour, with a few places seeing up to 40mm in 2 hours but perhaps more widely within a longer period overnight.

“Where this occurs there is the chance of some flooding and disruption.”
