Police have arrested a man from Hatfield in connection with damage to election posters.

Officers made the arrest following reports of damage or theft to General Election materials in Hertford Road in Hatfield between June 19 and June 23.

The 29-year-old man from Hatfield was arrested this morning (June 27) before being released on bail while investigations continue.

Superintendent Chris Hay, from Hertfordshire Constabulary, said: “I would like to remind members of the public that removing or causing damage to legitimate election publicity materials is a criminal offence.

“While these offences occurred in Hatfield, we take all reports of theft or damage seriously wherever they occur in the county.

“We will respond to incidents and where necessary make arrests as part of a full and prompt investigation. Anyone found to have committed theft or criminal damage to publicity materials could end up with a criminal record.”

Further enquiries are being made to identify anyone involved.
