Hello friends,

My name is Mia, and I did feature in the Welwyn Hatfield Times a number of weeks ago.

Sadly for me, no one has yet shown an interest in coming to meet me, so I thought I would have another try at sparking your interest in me.

I believe I am worthy and I think you will agree when you read - or reread my story - that I deserve a home of my own with my own special person or people.

When I was nine days old, along with my mum, I was rescued by RSPCA inspectors and taken from poor living conditions into the safety of their care.

Since then, apart from a short time as a pup in a foster home, I have spent my entire four-plus years of life in kennels - over 30 years in human terms!

I have heard staff say I am the longest resident at Southridge - this makes me so sad. I have seen hundreds of animals come and go on to happy homes, while I am continually overlooked and left disappointed. I am starting to feel I will be here forever!

As a Dutch Shepherd I am not your typical pet dog. I have an alert, keen intelligence and a sharp mind - members of my breed were originally herding dogs.

Now we excel in police, military service and search and rescue. I was bred to work and like to keep busy both physically and mentally.

You get the picture, I don't want to be the pet left at home, I want to be your 'partner in life'.

I have a longing to learn, and once I have built up a bond with you, will reward you with the wonders of my abilities and a fierce loyalty.

Staff at Southridge take me walking every day and while my favourite time is a run in the big compound, I have started to relax and really enjoy strokes and cuddles.

I love practicing mind-exercises, sits, stays, downs, waits and seeking hidden treats. I know I would be great at agility too.

I can get a little anxious when I see other dogs, so although my manners with canines is improving all the time, just in case while in public areas I am used to wearing a muzzle.

I do have a few requirements - an adult only home (no children visiting) - a secure garden large enough for me to play and explore - no other animals in the home - a quiet area to myself where I can switch off and relax - my special person should be experienced with dogs, ideally have an interest in dog behaviour and training and have the time and dedication to devote to my wellbeing and learning.

The Friends of Southridge will offer support with my training costs, as they recognise my talents and potential.

So if you are looking for a smart, loyal companion, with masses of potential and enthusiasm for life, here I am.

So why don't you pick up the phone or send that email to Southridge right now! Please, please end my long wait for a home - thank you.
