The new Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield, Councillor Frank Marsh, has chosen Herts Young Homeless (HYH) as his charity for the 2024/25 term.

HYH works with vulnerable individuals aged 10 years old and over facing homelessness or at risk of it, including teenagers whose families are at risk of a relationship breakdown.

They also work with those aged 18-plus, including 'care-experienced young people' and those with mental health and substance misuse challenges, with housing and support needs.

The service aims to give its users the ability and confidence to 'do it themselves' and find stability.

Mayor Marsh explained his choice, stating his dedication to the cause.

He said: "I am delighted to support Herts Young Homeless, a charity that provides essential services to young people facing homelessness.

"In a time when the cost of living is rising and many families are struggling, the work that HYH does is more important than ever.

"I am committed to raising both awareness and funds for this worthy cause, and I hope that through my efforts, I can make a real difference in the lives of young people in our borough."

In a bid to both raise awareness and funds for HYH, Mayor Marsh will organise multiple events and activities throughout his term.

He also welcomes donations from individuals and organisations who wish to support his charitable endeavour through his Just Giving Page.

Herts Young Homeless CEO, Jonny Whitehead, noted his delight at the Mayor's backing.

He said: "We are thrilled to be selected as the Mayor’s chosen charity this year.

"We very much appreciate the generosity of our community, which is immensely valued by those we help.

"The Mayor’s support will help us to continue to work with young people at risk of homelessness in the local area.

"We are committed to working closely with Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council to improve local provisions and prevent youth homelessness."
