Plans have been submitted for a housing development on the site of unlicensed kennels in Welham Green.
The planning application, submitted by New Bevan Homes, proposes the "erection of nine dwellings, including access road, hard standing and fencing following the demolition of existing buildings" at Glendee Boarding Kennels in Dixons Hill Close.
The application comes after Glendee Kennel and Cattery, and company owner Georgina Armstrong, were found guilty of running a cat and dog boarding business without a licence.
Both the company and Armstrong were fined £64,000 and given a four-year disqualification from owning or participating in the keeping of cats and dogs, with the planning and design statement for the application claiming operations will soon ceasing at the site.
"The site is currently in being used as a kennel and cattery, however, the existing owners are looking to cease this use in the near future," the statement reads.
"The site is located close to residential dwellings and the current use would be better suited to a more isolated location.
"Access to the site is proposed from the existing access point onto Dixon Hill Close, from which an access road to adoptable standard will serve the new dwellings.
"The proposed development aims to reflect that sale and density of the surrounding area, whilst not additionally impacting upon the greenbelt from the situation as existing."
