The victim of a £60,000 BMW theft has outlined her frustration, after being contacted by a police officer five days after the crime took place.
At 3.45am last Thursday (February 8), a BMW i4 was disconnected from an electric charging point in Warren Way, Digswell, before being driven away.
A car seat, used by the owner's daughter, was also abandoned at the end of the road.
CCTV footage appears to show the vehicle being driven away, with another individual running behind it.
The Digswell resident told this paper: "The most frustrating and disheartening element is that the case has only just been handed to an investigating officer today (Tuesday, February 13).
"That's five days after the crime.
"The thieves disconnected the car from the electric charging point - so a potential opportunity to lift finger prints.
"Additionally our daughter's car seat was abandoned at the bottom of the road, again another missed opportunity for forensics.
"The police have not come out to knock on doors to obtain further information or alert our area.
"This incident has left me so incredibly anxious. Even more so now that I know police have no power to, or are unwilling to stop this crime.
"We should not live in a society where thieves feel like they're at an open buffet to choose whichever car they wish with very little chance of being caught, let alone reprimanded."
Hertfordshire Constabulary have affirmed that they are doing all they can to resolve the case.
A spokesperson for the police service said: "We appreciate that some lines of enquiry are ruled out when an incident is reported to us after the crime has occurred.
"We have been in contact with the victim and are continuing to do everything we can to investigate, including reviewing CCTV footage."
