Greetings dear readers,

My name is Myrtle. I am a female Cane Corso.

I am so glad to have this opportunity to tell you about myself and hope when you have read my tragic story, you will be moved and motivated to give me the home I know I deserve.

Sadly, my life's experiences make me question the statement that 'we are a nation of animal lovers', because of the abuse and neglect I suffered at the hands of my previous owners.

In my six years of life I have had my ears cut off, my tail cut off, my teeth have been cosmetically altered, I have been starved and used as a breeding bitch. Where was that love for me?

Welwyn Hatfield Times:

However there is another very sad effect of the cruel treatment I received, which like the emotional scars is equally long-lasting.

By cosmetically altering my appearance, my previous owners have ensured that people see me a certain way, assuming I am aggressive and therefore not to be trusted. They give me a wide berth, something I don't deserve.

I am in reality a gentle, loyal, loving and (despite everything I have experienced), very trusting girl, with a heart of gold.

I love company and am always pleased to see everyone I meet, greeting them with a wag of my stumpy tail and sitting politely to enjoy a cuddle and a stroke.

Coming to Southridge has given me a second chance at life. Here I have experienced the magic of love and kindness and no one judges me by my looks.

I have discovered my sporty, playful side, and my skills at football and catch are legendary here. I often sneak a ball back to my kennel to get in some extra practice.

I am very partial to treats, particularly a sausage, and have good manners on lead and listen well, so know I would thrive at doggie school.

I do want to be the only pet in the family, as I am a little nervous of other dogs, and not used to cats.

Being quite big and athletic, I don't think living with children would suit me. I also need a secure fenced garden to frolic in.

I am innocent of all that I have experienced in my sad life, and I have heard staff here say I deserve to be treated like a queen, and to have a home where I can be adored and want for nothing.

In return I will shower my forever family with affection, loyalty and love.

I am waiting with my ball and bag packed, ready to come home. Please pick up the phone or email Southridge, and make my future happy. I can't wait to meet you.
