The de Havilland Philharmonic Orchestra is celebrating Abraham Lincoln's birthday and LGBTQ+ History Month with a concert dedicated to American music.

The concert will take place at 4pm on Sunday, February 11 at the Weston Auditorium on the University of Hertfordshire's de Havilland campus.

Tickets are available from www.uharts.co.uk or by calling the box office on 01707 281127.

In honour of Abraham Lincoln's birthday the following day on February 12, the concert will entirely feature the work of American composers. It will also celebrate LGBTQ+ history by exploring the work of Leonard Bernstein, whose bisexuality was widely known.

Led by conductor Robin Browning, the concert will open and close with two of Leonard Bernstein's works, the overture to Candide and his 'Symphony No.2: The Age of Anxiety', scored for solo piano and orchestra.

Inna Allen, acting head of UH Arts + Culture, said: "We are so excited to mark LGBTQ+ History Month by exploring the work of Leonard Bernstein, as well as honouring Abraham Lincoln’s 215th birthday by dedicating the concert to American music.

"We look forward to welcoming people to the Weston Auditorium to enjoy this wonderful concert by the university’s hugely talented resident orchestra."
