Crowds flocked to Welwyn Garden City and Potters Bar to see a legendary steam train on Saturday.
The Lincoln Christmas Express service, run by The Railway Touring Company, stopped at Potters Bar before passing through Welwyn Garden City on its way from London King's Cross up to Lincoln, with passengers hauled by the Black 5 No. 44871 locomotive.
The train left London King's Cross shortly before 9am, passing through Finsbury Park, Potters Bar and Welwyn Garden City before stopping to pick up passengers at Stevenage at 9.47am.
No. 44871 was built by the London Midland and Scottish railway in 1945, and was one of the last steam locomotives to be used by British Railways.
It was part of the famous Fifteen Guinea Special in 1968, the last main-line passenger train to be hauled by steam locomotive power on British Rail, before being withdrawn from service later that year.
