Isabel Hospice has won a 2023 eBay Business Award, that includes a £10,000 cash prize.
Following a UK-wide public vote in July this year, the Welwyn Garden City-based charity’s eBay shop has been named proud winners of the Social Impact Award.
The award is thanks to their Tonnes of Care initiative launched in 2022, with a mission to turn pre-loved items into nursing hours.
This sustainable initiative saved 1.9 million items from landfill last year and generated funds to pay for thousands of nursing hours for eastern Hertfordshire residents.
In addition to recognising the charity’s efforts in supporting the circular economy, the £10,000 prize will help fund the palliative care provided to those in the local community.
The charity will also gain access to a bespoke business growth package which will provide the tools and support for Isabel Hospice to reach their full selling potential on eBay.
E Commerce Trading Manager, Martin Baudrey, would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the Isabel Hospice supporters that voted.
“It has been an honour to win this award and it is such a great achievement for Isabel Hospice. Our eBay shop has allowed us to sell donated goods online and reach a much wider audience.
"In fact, our most valuable item this year was a rare Queen vinyl record which sold for £2,900 and was dispatched to Australia!
"There are over 2,500 items up for auction every week, all of which have been carefully selected and uploaded by the brilliant and hardworking eBay team!”
All nominees were invited to an awards ceremony at the House of Commons on Wednesday, October 18, where the winners were announced.

eBay also filmed a short promotional video to showcase the award win, featuring Martin and other Isabel Hospice staff. The video will be made available on Isabel Hospice social media channels soon.
Martin added: “It’s a real privilege to be part of a local organisation doing such good work for the community.
"Everyone at Isabel Hospice would like to thank all who voted, it really makes a difference.”
Interested in volunteering with the Isabel Hospice eBay team?
Due to extending opening hours into evenings and weekends, there are currently numerous opportunities available to volunteer within the Isabel Hospice eBay team, based in Hall Grove, Welwyn Garden City.
Any interest in photography, books, art, media (including vinyl records), antiques and collectables and online selling would make for a great eBay volunteer.
Even giving two hours on an ad hoc basis, or a morning or afternoon of your time each week, would benefit the charity hugely.

Don’t forget, you can also help support Isabel Hospice through donating unwanted goods for sale in their eBay shop.
