It’s been a great summer in the Garden City and we’ve been very busy at Wonderful WGC BID HQ!
Welwyn Garden City town centre was transformed into an outdoor cinema once again as thousands gathered for an exciting cinematic experience at Screen on the Green.
Three days of cinema became 4 as we had to step up to the challenge of delivering an extra event in just three days to screen the Women's World Cup Final.
The journey was undeniably demanding, but we were fortunate to work closely in partnership with the team at Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council to make it happen.
A special thanks goes to our sponsors, board members, stewards, and volunteers who helped make the event a resounding success. It was lovely to see the community come together and create an atmosphere of family friendly support!
In other exciting news, we hosted the inaugural WGC Biz Networking event at Postino Lounge. We were absolutely thrilled by the fantastic turnout.
Some great conversations were had, and we're grateful to everyone who attended. A huge thank you goes to Pete and the exceptional team at Postino for their hospitality. A shoutout also to Tom and the A-Plan crew for co-hosting and offering their support.
We're already in the process of planning the next event which will take place on Wednesday 27th September again at Postino Lounge, it’s free and open to all businesses in WGC.
The town centre improvements works are progressing well, with the new raised crossings and footway works along Howardsgate near completion.
On 23 August, HCC started the penultimate phase of work to install the new cycleway and re-pave the footway on Fretherne Road.
We are very sad to say goodbye to Bedtime Beers, as independent businesses continue to face challenging times.
We would like to thank Stephan and the team for taking a chance on our town and we are really sorry to see them go.
On happier news, we must congratulate the team at Moreno’s Café for winning the Welwyn Hatfield Times Favourite Café Award, and celebrating with a restaurant makeover. Well done Moreno’s!
We recently met with Helen the new Howard Centre manager and we are delighted to hear about some fantastic positives initiatives that will be adding vibrancy to the shopping centre. We can’t give much away but trust me, they will make a significant impact.
Our most recent Street Food Heroes event, held last Thursday, was another resounding success, graced by yet another sunny day.
We've been incredibly fortunate with the weather this year! The good news is that Street Food Heroes will be returning next year, starting in April.
As we shift our focus, we are now dedicating our time and efforts to supporting businesses and are actively working on implementing cost-saving initiatives before the end of the year.
And of course, the holiday season is on the horizon – I won’t quite mention the 'C' word yet but stay tuned for more details in the next column.
