There are hopes for Welwyn Hatfield success at the Anglia in Bloom competition after judges came to tour the borough last week.
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council has entered six categories, with the following locations being considered for awards:
- Best Local Authority Floral Display – Howardsgate and Parkway
- Best Public Open Space - Howardsgate and Parkway
- Best Sustainable Garden – Anniversary Gardens
- Best Conservation Project – The Fernery
- Best Community Project – All Aboarders
- Best Community Project – The Fernery
The judges will evaluate the entries based on criteria such as plant choice, maintenance, environmental responsibility, and community participation.

"We were absolutely delighted to achieve two silver gilt and two silver awards for our borough last year," said Cllr Sandreni Bonfante, executive member for environment.
"It was a fantastic way to celebrate the hard work and achievements of our council officers, contractors, and community volunteers, all of whom are instrumental in ensuring the area looks fantastic for visitors.
"This year we have taken on board the judges’ feedback, and we’ve entered a number of different categories which we’re excited to share. I have high hopes for this year’s awards."
The results of Anglia in Bloom 2023 will be announced in September.
