A new community lottery that will see "60 per cent of the proceeds go to charity" is set to make "a lot of difference" across Welwyn Hatfield.
Tickets for the One Welwyn Hatfield Lottery will go on sale on September 18, and it is easy and free to enter, with charities, voluntary organisations and other not-for-profit groups reaping the rewards, while the remainder will be put towards prizes, operating costs and VAT.
Sixty per cent of the ticket sales will go to good causes, with a £25,000 jackpot up for grabs every week.
Cllr Max Holloway, executive member for community and leisure at Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, is hoping it will make "a lot of difference" to the borough.
"The money raised by One Welwyn Hatfield Lottery is going to make a lot of difference to good causes across the borough," he said.
"We'd encourage all charities and community groups to join the Good Cause Launch Event and start fundraising with our lottery. It’s easy and free."
Charities and other good causes who are interested in being involved are asked to join a launch event on August 23, where further information will be provided to them.#
Leading lottery management company, Gatherwell, has been appointed by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council to run the lottery, having successfully launched similar lotteries throughout the UK.
Nigel Atkinson, Gatherwell's General Manager, said: "We are delighted that Gatherwell has been awarded the opportunity to deliver One Welwyn Hatfield Lottery.
"We're looking forward to working with Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council to raise funds for many amazing, good causes."
