Hertford Museum has launched a campaign to fund a new website telling the story of the 'valiant' Hertfordshire Regiment.
More than 900 men from the regiment lost their lives in WWI, and a further 135 in WWII.
The new website, launched in conjunction with Hertfordshire Royal British Legion, aims to be live by November and will feature a collection of the museum's regimental items from photos to diary accounts, uniforms and other memorabilia.
The launch event took place on July 13, and raised £760, enough to pay for the first eight months of the website - which costs £1,000 a year to run.
Deputy Lieutenant Emma Robarts and Herts County Council vice chair Cllr Lesley Greensmyth joined Royal British Legion branches and members of the public at the launch.
Sara Taylor, curator at Hertford Museum, also gave a talk.
She said: "We are absolutely delighted by the success of the event and so grateful for the support of the RBL, which has enabled us to get the word out to a significantly wider audience.

"Funds raised this evening have covered nearly a year of hosting and maintenance costs for the website, which is absolutely invaluable. We are so looking forward to the website launch in November."
The Hertfordshire Regiment disbanded 62 years ago, and the website will honour their bravery and sacrifice.
