Residents of a street in Cuffley are "terrified to open windows" after a barn which they believe contained asbestos was demolished.
The buidling located in the field just behind Cranfield Crescent was pulled down last week, with a resident - who has asked to remain anonymous - raising serious concerns about asbestos.
A group of naturally occurring fibrous minerals that are resistant to heat and corrosion, exposure to asbestos can cause serious health problems, including cancer.
"I live in a bungalow, and the barn is approximately 15 feet from my back garden," said the resident.

"There are men going in with masks on, but no other safety equipment or PPE is being used.
"I am certain there is a legal requirement for the safe removal of asbestos into sealed containers and for a protective out layer to be erected before the demolition can take place.
"We are terrified of opening our windows or going outside. This is causing huge disruption and distress to our lives.

"As well as fearing for our own health we are afraid to let our pets outside.
"We were given no notification that this demolition was about to take place. Clearly no consideration was given to residents when permission for this abomination was approved."
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council confirmed to this newspaper that the demolition was "not connected" to them, and that "the member of the public should contact the Health and Safety Executive if they have any concerns".
