A school in Hatfield was treated to a special visit from an international basketball player star, who put on a motivational session for pupils.

Pierre Henry-Fontaine visited St. Philip Howard Primary School on June 16, as part of the school's efforts to promote sport and encourage their pupils to lead healthy lifestyles, both mentally and physically.

The now-retired basketball star gave a motivational assembly, before taking questions about his life and career, and then putting on an excercise session.

"The pupils were excited just to see Pierre step into the school hall, as his height 6ft 4in, he must have looked exceptionally tall to the nursery children in the room," said a spokesperson.

"The pupils were particularly impressed when Pierre picked up a basketball and demonstrated his skills to them."

St. Philip Howard pupils also raised money for charity, with the spokesperson adding: "Through their own fundraising efforts, the children managed to raise an amazing £800.

"A percentage of the money raised will go towards helping athletes to overcome financial challenges, such as training and medical bills, and competition registration fees, with the remainder going to the school to benefit the children themselves."
