A memorial to remember those who died during the COVID-19 pandemic has been unveiled in Hatfield.
Hatfield’s Town Mayor, Cllr Gareth Aicken, revealed the memorial in Coronation Gardens on Wednesday, which was kindly donated and installed by funeral directors JJ Burgess & Sons, before a minute's silence was held.

"Whilst the pandemic was truly global, and its impact felt individually, the town council welcomed the opportunity to have a communal point of remembrance given the amazing sense of community that was awoken during those times, including an appreciation for key workers, whether they be NHS staff, teachers, delivery drivers or those involved in food production," said a council spokesman.
"The memorial is a symbol of the people of Hatfield standing together with our neighbours," added Cllr Aicken.

The memorial will stand in the newly rejuvenated Coronation Gardens, which have become a key green space in Hatfield and also house benches dedicated to Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond and Platinum Jubilees, and a tribute to Captain Sir Tom Moore.
"A key priority for the town council is to ensure community assets, like Coronation Gardens, are looked after and can be enjoyed by all members of the community for years to come," said new Hatfield Town Council leader Larry Crofton.
