A court date has been set for a man from Hatfield who was charged with rape and assault earlier this month.

Stefan Keleman, 46, of Campion Road, Hatfield, was arrested and has been charged with rape and ABH assault, after officers were called at around 11.35pm on Sunday, June 18, following reports that a woman had been raped in Hatfield town centre.

At a hearing at Hatfield Remand Court on Wednesday, June 21, Keleman was remanded into custody, with a court date set for July 19 at St Albans Crown Court.

"The victim was taken to hospital after sustaining a head injury and is being supported by our specialist officers," said Welwyn Hatfield Chief Inspector Kash Hussain.

"I would like to commend her bravery in reporting this to us.

"A man was quickly arrested, charged and remanded. I hope this provides reassurance that we take such reports extremely seriously."
