The 'millennium kneelers' of St Peter's Church in Tewin are set to feature in a new book.
Kneelers: The Unsung Folk Art of England and Wales by Elizabeth Bingham tells the "charming and witty" history of the craft of embroidering kneeler cushions, which are used for prayer in parish churches across the land.
Tewin is famous for its millennium kneelers, which featured in a BBC documentary in 2019. They were commissioned in the late 1980s as a way of commemorating the turn of the new millennium by the whole community - with nearly every household contributing in some way.
The kneelers display the village's history, from its Saxon foundations to the de Havilland Comet aircraft, all rendered in intricate embroidery.
St Peter's Church will continue its proud association with folk art this coming weekend (Saturday, July 1 and Sunday, July 2), when it hosts the touring knitted bible.
Residents are invited to come and see both the knitted bible and the church's millennium kneelers.

Elizabeth Bingham is a leading authority on Anglican church kneelers. Around 30 years ago, knowing that the folk art of designing and making kneelers was endangered due to stackable plastic chairs replacing pews , Elizabeth set up the parish kneelers website parishkneelers.co.uk.
Her book is available to buy from Amazon and other bookstores.
