A Welwyn Garden City addiction support charity got a surprise visit from patron MP Grant Shapps as they welcomed their new CEO.

Laura Hyde has been in the role at Resolve - which provides drug and alcohol support at their bespoke centre in Woodhall Community Centre - since March.

Mr Shapps visited the charity to see how Laura has been getting on, also meeting some of their clients, having supported more than 200 people last year.

"It was great for some of our Welwyn Garden City team and service users to meet Grant," said Laura.

"Grant has been a long-standing supporter of Resolve since it was set up by the founder and former chief executive Joe Heeney 15 years ago, with Grant's wife even running a fundraising marathon for Resolve many years ago.

"I am so proud to be the new chief executive of Resolve. Resolve saves people's lives and helps to support them on their difficult road to recovery."

Mr Shapps was full of praise for Laura, adding: "It was wonderful to meet the Resolve team and Laura. I congratulate her on becoming the new CEO of Resolve.

"I can see how dedicated and passionate she is about her role, so I know she’ll do Resolve proud.

"Resolve provides vital support for those that need it the most. I wish everyone all the very best for the future."
