The contribution of volunteers is often unseen and unrecognised by many, visible only through the incredible impact of their volunteering.

2023 marks the 39th year of Volunteers’ Week, which takes place from June 1 to June 7.

Volunteers' Week 2023 is a chance to recognise the fantastic contribution volunteers make to our communities and say thank you.

Isabel Hospice will join thousands of charities and voluntary organisations recognising the contribution volunteers make across the UK.

With this year’s theme of ‘Celebrate and Inspire’, the Welwyn Garden City-based end-of-life care charity hopes to encourage more people to get involved in volunteering.

This Volunteers’ Week, Isabel Hospice will continue to thank their many volunteers. They will be profiling those who have recently appeared in ‘Together We Volunteer’ – a short film highlighting the huge variety of volunteering roles available with Isabel Hospice.

At the Hospice, at Hall Grove Welwyn Garden City Living Well Services and at head office in Bridge Road, staff will be organising team gatherings where their department volunteers’ achievements will be shared.

Volunteer lead Caroline Baynes said: “Volunteers' Week is a chance to celebrate and recognise the fantastic contribution our volunteers make.

"We are constantly blown away by their goodwill – often going above and beyond what is asked of them.

"Either volunteering as a compassionate neighbour or working in one of our many busy teams in the shops or donation centres, their generosity is never forgotten.

"Thanks to them, the local community has benefited from many hours of care and companionship, and we simply wouldn’t be here without them."

Robbie, one of Isabel's weekly volunteers, said: “Come in and see us – there are so many areas you can support.

"It is not all physical in case some people might be worried they will have to drive a van. Maybe because of the job you have, you might want to do something different. Having said that, people have skills they might feel they can use and fill a gap.

"If you come to us and ask, ‘what can I do to help support you?’ between us we will find a purpose.”
