Cracking down on drug dealing, shoplifting, speeding, vehicle interference, and residential burglaries are among the new policing priorities of the Welwyn Hatfield Safer Neighbourhood Team.
The Safer Neighbourhood Team are tasked with fixing short- and long-term neighbourhood issues such as anti-social behaviour.
The officers work closely with local partners including the council and schools to achieve this.
The team regularly sets out priorities to focus on and these are reviewed throughout the year.
A new set of priorities have recently been decided, based partly on the information residents have been submitting on echo, the constabulary’s community voice platform.
The latest Welwyn Hatfield policing priorities are:
Welwyn Hatfield North
(Welwyn West, Welwyn East, Haldens, Sherrards, Handside, Peartree and Panshanger)
- School parking issues – Applecroft, Stanborough, St Mary’s, Peartree, and Swallow Dell.
- Anti-social behaviour in Welwyn Garden City town centre and Peartree ward.
- Drug dealing in Peartree ward, particularly in Peartree Lane.
Welwyn Hatfield West
(Hatfield Villages, Hatfield Central, Hatfield South West and the University of Hertfordshire)
- Vehicle interference – theft from vehicles in Birchwood and reports of ‘donuts’ in The Common car park.
- Shoplifting – in the Galleria and Hatfield town centre.
- Drug usage/dealing – Alban Way, Middlefield, Oak Tree Close, Chennells, High Dells, and Fiddlebridge.
Welwyn Hatfield South
(Hollybush, Cuffley, Howlands, Northaw, Hatfield East, Hatfield South)
- Speeding – through the three villages of Welham Green, Brookmans Park, and Cuffley.
- Residential burglaries – mainly Cuffley and Northaw.
Safer Neighbourhood Team Inspector Amy Sheldon said: “We’ve listened to the public’s views and so I hope residents feel reassured by the priorities we’ve chosen.
“Of course, this does not mean we are not tackling other issues, but we are certainly paying particular attention to these ones.
“Thank you to all those who continue submitting their thoughts and feedback on echo. It really is invaluable and I encourage you to keep on engaging with us, telling us your views.”
