Hertfordshire is blessed with some stunning walks that boasts beautiful views right outside your doorstep.
If you are looking for a lakeside or riverside location to walk by, the county hosts some of the best spots.
We have compiled a list of some of the best lakeside walks you can enjoy as the weather gets better.
1. Stanborough Lakes, Welwyn Garden City
Stanborough Lakes is a beautiful countryside park, with two lakes covering an area of 126 acres.
Hundreds of people enjoy taking a walk or going fishing at the lakeside park.
You can also go sailing, kayaking, canoeing and do stand up paddleboarding among all the other activities they offer.
2. Verulamium Park, St Albans
Verulamium Park is set in 100 acres of parkland close to the city centre and is a popular attraction throughout the year with a wide range of facilities.
The park is named after the Roman City of Verulamium on which it stands, and you will discover large sections of the Roman city wall still intact.
You will also find a well-preserved mosaic which once formed part of large town house.
One of the main attractions is the River Ver, which is a great scenic view for walkers and runners.
3. Oughtonhead Common, Hitchin
Oughtonhead Common is a local nature reserve that features river Oughton.
The river flows through the common and you can explore the different footpaths throughout the site, while doing a bit of wildlife spotting as you go.
It also features a waterfall that will blow you away and is definitely worth the walk.
4. River Lea, Hatfield
River Lea originates near Luton and meanders to Hertford through places like Hatfield.
There are various parts of the rivers that flow through edge of Welwyn Garden City to reach the Cole Green Way, while the river emerges from Hatfield Park.
You can walk through these routes while staying close to the river and enjoying the beautiful views.
5. Brocket Hall, Welwyn Garden City
Brocket Hall is a country house surrounded by a large park.
This circular walk takes you along the public footpaths surrounding Brocket Hall.
Broadwater Lake and a part of River Lea flows through the estate and is a beautiful location to admire on your walks.
The lake is situated in 543 acres of mature parkland, surrounded by a sprawling golf course that can be enjoyed by anyone, including your pets.
6. Fairlands Valley Park, Stevenage
Fairlands Valley Park consists of 120 acres of beautiful parkland situated within the heart of Stevenage.
It features an aqua park, play area, sailing centre, four lakes and a beautiful woodland area.
The Main Lake is used for a wide range of outdoor activities including fishing, sailing, wind surfing, kayaking, power boating, and dragon boat racing.
The Balancing Pond is the first in the chain of the Fairlands Valley Lake.
The pond is fed by water from the storm drain network and only resembles a pond after substantial rainfall.
There truly is something for everyone at the Fairlands Valley Park.
7. Panshanger Park, WGC and Hertford
Panshanger Park is a go to spot for many people who enjoy walks and picnics.
The historic park has been owned by Tarmac since the 1980s and since the 1990s to current day, they carried out phased mineral extraction in the park.
At this time of year, the park is enveloped with bluebells and all the wildlife come out to play.
The scenic walk has many beautiful corners from the lake to an abandoned building.
Since March, the park also features a coffee trailer that offers refreshments including hot drinks and cakes.
The refreshments trailer will be located at the T-junction between Lady Hughes and Osprey Lake, making it the perfect start or end to your Panshanger walk.
