Residents of a private road in Panshanger have been placed in temporary accommodation due to a deep sinkhole that appeared over the weekend.
The Martlesham residents were moved into emergency temporary accommodation on Tuesday, May 2, as the area was deemed potentially unsafe, and the hole has potential to spread.
One resident who was evacuated from the area said: "We saw the sinkhole appear on Saturday and we informed the council but on Monday we felt a little shake and the sinkhole got even bigger and that is when we called the police.

"The police and firefighters came, the area was cornered off and we were all evacuated."
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council said: "We were made aware of a sinkhole on a private road in Martlesham in Welwyn Garden City. We understand this is being investigated by the managing agent who are also supporting residents living in this area."
Tenants have been asked to pay their hotel bills upfront and they will later be reimbursed by the property management.

The resident added: "All residents are still in their hotels and are being expected to pay out for it upfront. This is very hard for multiple nights with many renters living month to month.
"We have not been told how long we will be here for, it's horrendous."
