With the Coronation of King Charles less than a month away on Saturday, May 6, Hertfordshire looks forward to hosting celebrations for the occasion.
We've compiled a list of some of the best public coronation-themed events in Hertfordshire pubs, schools, and parks.
1. Birchwood Coronation Picnic
Birchwood Avenue Primary School will be hosting a coronation picnic for its surrounding neighbourhood.
On Thursday, May 4, from 3pm to 5.30pm, residents are welcomed to the Birchwood school for free.
Bring a picnic, your friends and family, and celebrate together with candy floss, face painting, balloons, cakes, ice cream, refreshments, games, prizes, and so much more.
2. The Steamer Pub
The newly-opened Steamer Pub will also host a coronation party on Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7 from noon.
The pub in Welwyn will host a fun day that features two bouncy castles, face paintings, cocktails, burgers, an ice cream van, and music.
All of this will be followed by live music inside the pub.
3. Greenwood Park
Greenwood Park in St Albans will be hosting a coronation celebration on Saturday, May 6 from 3pm to 10pm.
On the day there will be a screen showing coronation highlights.
Elvis Shmelvis will be hosting along with many food and drink stalls, children’s activities and a firework finale.
All are welcome to this free event.
4. Stevenage Day
Stevenage Day is a separate event to the coronation, but nonetheless this year's theme will be The King's Coronation.
For those that are unable to celebrate in May, on Sunday, June 11, lots of free fun activities, a main performance area and the twin stages of Rock in the Park will be available.
5. Sopwell House Coronation Tea
For a classier celebration, Sopwell House in St Albans will be hosting afternoon tea from Friday, May 5 to Monday, May 8 from £34 per person on Friday and for £38 per person for the rest of the days.
The talented pastry team have created a royal-inspired Afternoon Tea featuring some of The King’s favourite cakes including a traditional Victoria sponge, fruit tart, biscuit cake, fruit cake, and Earl Grey macaroon.
A Sopwell favourite, The Battenberg, will also be prepared. The cake was created in honour of the marriage of Queen Victoria’s granddaughter to Prince Louis of Battenberg in 1884, who’s son, Lord Mountbatten, once lived at Sopwell House.
