Volunteers collected more than 150 bags of litter and recycling last week as part of the Clean Up Hatfield campaign.
Twelve groups of residents and all the schools in Hatfield took part in the litter pick, collecting rubbish from streets and hedgerows.
Campaign leader Marian Hurle said: "This is without the amount collected by the local schools. It's shocking how much litter there is.
"Thank you to all the volunteer leaders and the local residents who came out to support them. The message is to take your rubbish home with you or find a bin, don't just drop it."
Onslow St Audrey's School had a large number of students taking part, while other schools had groups of children going out and clearing around the school boundaries.
Fourteen volunteers from cycling charity Sustrans, Wel Hat Cyclists and others gathered on the Alban Way and cleared 44 bags of litter and recyclables, concentrating their efforts on the area behind the Galleria shopping centre.
