A teenager has been charged following an altercation involving an e-scooter and a pedestrian in Hatfield Town Centre.

On Saturday, April 1, police were called at 10.49am to a report of an altercation involving an e-scooter in White Lion Square.

It was reported that a man in his 70s had been repeatedly punched, causing a fractured eye socket.

Members of the public gave first aid to the man before the emergency services arrived to take over.

Thierry Wilkerson, 19, of Hatfield, has been charged with GBH, possession of cannabis and being concerned in the supply of cannabis. The e-scooter was seized, and he was also reported for driving offences.

Wilkerson was remanded in custody ahead of an appearance at Hatfield Remand Court today (Monday, April 3).

He has now been bailed with conditions and the next court hearing will be on Tuesday, May 2.

Detective inspector Bianca Broadbent, from the Welwyn Hatfield Local Crime Unit, said: “The incident happened whilst the market was in full swing and so it is likely that there are a number of witnesses.

"We’ve already spoken to many of them, but if you saw what happened, and have not yet spoken to us, please get in touch.”
