In the last few year, Welwyn Hatfield has seen many of its well-loved pubs reopen their doors after shutting for unforeseen reasons or for a refurbishment.
We wanted to see how these pubs were doing, and what we can expect to see from them in the future.
Here's a list of pubs that reopened their doors in the last five years.
1. The White Horse - 2023
The White Horse pub in Welwyn reopened earlier this year, in January, and is located on 30 Mill Lane, Welwyn.
The pub opened with new management, a new menu and a new drinks range.
Many residents were excited for the pub's reopening, and since then, it has continued to grow and make gradual improvements.
Michael, the operator of The White Horse said: "We reopened in partnership with Punch Pubs.
"Our fantastic garden has a garden bar that is being fully stocked and ready to open in the warmer months.
"We have a brand-new spring menu launching at the end of April with some fantastic new dishes to cater to everyone. Our new and improved Sunday lunches are popular and booking at the weekend is essential."
2. The Steamer - 2022
The Steamer pub re-opened in late 2022, under the ownership of Andi Nicolaou, who had dreamed of running the pub since she was a young girl.
Andi grew up in the area and as soon as she turned 18, she went in for a drink.
Now at 29, Andi aims to do things differently by hosting events, summer barbeques and family fun days.
Initially, the pub kitchen had to go through some changes, but Andi hopes to open it in the next two weeks.
The pub owner said: "We are doing good! We are opening the kitchen in hopefully just over a week. We are renting it to The Meating Room, who own three other restaurants nearby.
"We'll have a gourmet burger menu, and I am really looking forward to it and I'm positive it will 100 per cent work in this village."
The pub also brings in a DJ every Friday night, along with live music every Saturday, and bingo every Tuesday, so there are loads to look forward to.
3. The Bakehouse - 2021
The Bakehouse located in Bessemer Road, Welwyn Garden City, reopened its doors in 2021 after a new owner took over.
The owner of The White Horse also took over The Bakehouse in mid-June, in partnership with Marston's.
Since the takeover, the pub has grown steadily, removing the old carvery style in favour of a new community and family pub classics menu.
Michael said: "The pub food is done well, and our latest menu is our best one yet.
"We are making changes over time and the garden and garden furniture is due for a makeover ASAP. We are family friendly always and offer live entertainment, including DJs in the evenings.
"All in all, in these hard times business is tough, but we are able to constantly adapt to the changes with my years of experience in this industry and the flexibility given to me by the brewery."
4. Brookmans - 2021
Brookmans located in Bradmore Green, Brookmans Park, reopened its doors in April 2021.
They opened with a new outdoor space that can accommodate twice as many guests.
Whether you pop in for a weekend breakfast, lunch or dinner, or anything in between, there will be plenty of seasonal dishes on offer, alongside some exciting new cocktails, gins and soft drinks.
The wide stretch tent in front of the pub features plenty of spots for sitting and enjoying morning coffee or a sundowner, with rosewood tables and rattan armchairs piled with comfy cushions and fleecy throws.
A spokesperson for Brookmans said: "People that work from home come into the pub to do their work and on weekends everyone just comes out for a drink.
"Business has been good since we re-opened, and we have improved our sales from when we were open pre-pandemic."
5. The Station - 2020
The Station located in Station Approach, Knebworth reopened its doors in 2020, three years after shutting down.
The pub closed in February 2017 and was bought by a developer with plans to build flats right next to it.
The developer said the plans included re-opening the pub in Station Approach, but campaign group Save Our Station Pub felt the close proximity of the development made it unviable.
While North Herts District Council refused the planning application and Knebworth Parish Council bought the pub building when it went on sale in 2019.
Since then, it has been completely refurbished, and couple Becky and Lloyd Willis have been given the tenancy.
The owners were not available for a comment, but a spokesperson of the pub said: "We are doing really well, and people enjoy coming here and we have a lot of regulars. We have quite days like any other places, but a lot of people enjoy the food.
"There are no plans set in stone, but we would love to extend the pub. We had loads of people dining outside last year so we've added more seating as we tend to run out of space, which is a good thing."
