The A602 Improvement Scheme is continuing with repairs to a bridge near Watton-at-Stone next week.
The work will remove defective prefabricated beams recently installed on the new A602 Dane End Bridge, after concerns about the bridge's structure were raised following checks last year.
Hertfordshire County Council has been working closely with contractor Tilbury Douglas to establish the extent of the defects and how best to resolve the issue.
A series of tests and assessments were conducted and based on the findings it was concluded that all the prefabricated beams will be replaced.
Traffic will continue to run on the A602 while work is carried out, and no further road closures are anticipated, with the new A602 road and bridge expected to fully open by this summer.
Part of the new road has opened for local access and will continue to remain open while the bridge works are concluded.
"We are pleased that the solution has been agreed, to ensure that the road and bridge are constructed as intended," said Phil Bibby, executive member for highways and transport at Hertfordshire County Council.
"We welcome the patience of the community and road users until the road opens in summer 2023."
