Data has revealed that more than three quarters of ambulances are queuing outside of A&E in East and North Hertfordshire as pressure on the NHS continues.
Data from BBC News showed that since January 2, 76 per cent of ambulancs were waiting 30 minutes or more to hand over their patients to A&E staff at Lister Hospital and New QEII.
This figure is way above the national average of 36 per cent, and up on the 25 per cent recorded this time in 2019.
46 per cent of patients also waited longer than the target time of 18 weeks for routine treatments in November last year, 5 per above the national average and up from 16 per cent in 2019.
39 per cent of patients waited longer than the A&E target time of four hours in December, just below the national average of 40 per cent, but up from 21 per cent in 2019.
The NHS is coming under continued pressure, as hospitals struggle with COVID-19 backlogs, flu season, staff shortages and nurses, ambulance staff and physiotherapists all going on strike over pay.
