Biographers believe that Tchaikovsky's homosexuality is revealed within the composer's writings.
The University's acting head of arts and culture, Inna Allen, said: "We are thrilled to perform a concert by Tchaikovsky during LGBTQ+ History Month.
"Tchaikovsky sought the company of men and wrote about his desires – defiant at a time when it was considered socially unacceptable, even illegal.
"He lived most of his life a bachelor, embarking on one marriage which ended disastrously after only six weeks.
"This internal struggle may well have contributed to the undoubtedly stormy nature of his music.
“Today we are proud to be able to celebrate and acknowledge his sexuality and undeniable contribution to history and bring audiences a rousing and engaging performance by our wonderful orchestra.”
The concert will take place on Sunday, February 5, at 4pm and will last for two hours.
Tickets can be purchased via the University's Arts & Culture website (www.uharts.co.uk), or by calling 01707 281 127.
