You can soon have your say on the future of Welwyn Hatfield, with details for the consultation on the Local Plan soon to be revealed.

After a long-running saga, it was finally agreed at a full council meeting on December 20 that Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council would carry out a consultation based on a housing supply of 13,392 dwellings, with a ten-year supply of 9,209 dwellings, as recommended by the Planning Inspector.

Results of the consultation would be considered by the Inspector as he prepares a final report on the Local Plan that would be brought back to WHBC in the summer of 2023.

In a statement, WHBC confirmed that “details of the consultation will be published early in the new year.”

News of a consultation period and an agreement on housing numbers seems to signal a step forward for the Local Plan.

One of the key sticking points has been land that the council were keen to protect next to Brookmans Park Railway Station and off the B156 Northaw Road East in Cuffley, but they have now had to agree to reinclude it in the plan and that the borough needs 15,200 new homes - including 3,344 already delivered - in the 20 years to 2036.
