The Welwyn Garden City community has come together to support a foodbank in the town, with food donated by residents.
For a third consecutive year, Howlands Labour councillors teamed up with Welwyn Garden City Trades Council to collect donations for the New Zion Church Food Bank.
Cllr Max Holloway and Cllr Jill Weston dropped off donations on Monday afternoon, with items being donated by Howlands residents, the Trades Council and Unite Community.
“It's amazing how the Howlands community has pulled together to support our local food bank this Christmas,” said Cllr Holloway.
“A big thank you to everyone who donated, this will make a huge difference.
“It's wrong that so many local people are in such desperate need. No one should have to rely on charity to eat properly, it's the job of the government to step up and act.”
Bob Wilkins, from the Welwyn Garden City Trades Council, added: “For the fourth consecutive year local trade unionists are playing their part in alleviating deprivation within our local community.
“It is humbling to see those with little donating to those with even less.
“Our thanks to all those who have organised and participated in this initiative.”
