A tree-planting pledge has been made by the green-fingered Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council as part of national celebrations later this month.
From November 26 to December 4, the council will be celebrating National Tree Week, which encourages people to celebrate and explore the beauty and necessity of the UK’s trees.
They have also pledged to plant 301 street trees and 15 orchard trees of 90 different species between November 2022 and January 2023, keeping up their claim as a prestigious ‘Tree City of the World’.
Councillor Samuel Kasumu, executive member for environment at Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, said: “We place great importance on preserving our landscape so that it may continue to be enjoyed by us all.
“I am proud of our involvement with National Tree Week and the efforts throughout the year by colleagues, volunteers, and the public to safeguard the natural environment across the borough.
“This council is committed to the continued positive management of our trees and woodlands, and I am pleased that we have a programme for their maintenance, improvement, and renewal into the future.”
Welwyn Hatfield residents have been getting on board too, with 6,000 trees given out free of charge by Hertfordshire County Council ‘Your Tree, Our Future’ campaign.
