Hatfield Swim Club aims to raise money to cover pool hiring costs to help dissipate the mental effects of the pandemic on swimmers.
The club runs an elite swimming programme and has representation at national and international meets, including World Championships and Olympics.
They aim to offer all members the opportunity to achieve their highest potential in a friendly and purposeful environment.
The club is asking the public for help to fund the rising costs of their pools. Currently, they have raised a little over £14,000.
In their crowdfunding page, the club said: "Swimming is a life skill that promotes physical, as well as mental health.
"Evidence published in the Government's Covid-19 Mental Health Wellbeing and Surveillance report suggests that the mental health of some children and teenagers has been impacted by the effects of the pandemic - a proportion reporting that they are facing increasing feelings of anxiety and loneliness.
“During the Covid lockdowns, our club managed to motivate our swimmers by providing group virtual training sessions, group opportunities to chat with peers and coaches, and zoom chats with GB Olympians.”
The coaches at the club have been working hard to continue to run their programme while ensuring that their young members feel connected and maintain their motivation and drive.
However due to the cost-of-living crisis and the increasing energy and fuel costs, the pool hiring costs have gone up.
The club is trying its hardest to maintain the membership fees while still covering the higher pool costs as some parents are struggling with their monthly subscriptions.
They added: “We also know from our swimmers that their training is valuable in maintaining their mental and physical health. It would be a shame to deprive them of our sessions because of lack of affordability.
“We will spend the money raised to pay for pool hire at our two venues: Hertfordshire Swim Village and Hatfield Swim Centre.
“We will also allocate 25 per cent of the funds collected to create a 'Hardship Fund' that will be used to pay the membership costs for disadvantaged families whose children stand the risk of leaving the sport they love entirely.”
