A fresh planning application has been submitted for the redevelopment of a Welwyn Garden City church site following the withdrawal of a previous application.
Rockwell Homes has applied to Welwyn Hatfield Council for permission to demolish All Saints Church and a house on the site in Hall Grove.
The developer is also seeking to build six two-bed homes and three three-bed homes, plus a community hall with associated parking and landscaping.
The previous application was also for nine homes, but it was for one two-bed, six three-beds and two four-beds, including a community hall.
Rockwell Homes has stressed that there would be “no change of use as the community centre is to be owned by the Diocese of St Albans for uses similar to those currently taking place on site”.
In a design and access statement on behalf of the developer, it was added: “The project is driven by the church to reprovide a community facility appropriate to their needs going forward and also a flat for the church above the hall.
“Delivery of this new provision is being supported financially by cross subsidy from the proposed private sale dwellings.”
The statement continues: “The latest design has taken on board advice regarding highways, parking and layout to create a suitable scheme.”
