A meat thief has faced court following on from a Welwyn Hatfield police appeal urging people to stop feeding their families stolen food.
James Sullivan, 35, was arrested on January 10 and charged the following day on suspicion of theft.
The incident occurred between 5.45pm and 5.55pm on January 8 at Aldi in Hatfield.
Sullivan was caught stealing two joints of lamb.
A Herts Police spokeswoman told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “When stopped by staff, he initially showed them his shopping bag and claimed he purchased the items earlier.
“He was questioned further and became agitated, before saying to the staff member ‘I’ve got a pin and a knife, if you want to go further’.
“He then ran off towards the Galleria.”
Sullivan, of Theobald Street, Borehamwood, appeared in Hatfield Magistrates Court on January 11 and pleaded guilty to the charge.
He was given a two-week suspended sentence and ordered to pay court costs.
