FOUR crashes on the A414 between Hertford and Hatfield forced police to close the road this morning (Tuesday).
It has now reopened with officers forced into action after an icy road led to a string of accidents with the chaos starting near Cole Green.
Offices were made aware of a Ford Focus on its side at 6.15am and the ambulance service said the driver had no injuries.
A white van covered in frost was also found on the A414 which may have come off the road and been abandoned during the night.
Just over an hour later a Blue Renault Clio crashed at 7.53am on Hertford Road the A414 in Hatfield at the Essendon and Welwyn roundabout.
The car was in a bush and needed recovery but the driver was unharmed.
Police were kept busy with the collisions and at 8.23am police came across a White Seat Ibiza that had come off the road and needed recovery.
Before today’s chaos began an articulated lorry and a silver Vauxhall Vectra crashed on the A1m and A414 roundabout – neither of them needed recovery.
