Expect heart-warming tales and honest anecdotes from life on the farm when Amanda Owen hosts An Evening with the Yorkshire Shepherdess in aid of Isabel Hospice next month.
The writer and TV personality will be sharing the challenges, rewards and realities of her remarkable farming and family life in North Yorkshire during the frank, funny and informative show at Tewin Bury Farm on Thursday, September 15.
The event, in the Tythe Barn, will begin with wine and canapes followed by an hour’s talk, Q&A session and book signing. Tickets are £35.
Amanda grew up in Huddersfield but was inspired by James Herriot’s books to leave her town life behind and head to the countryside.
After a period milking cows and working as a contract shepherdess and alpaca shearer, she eventually settled down in Swaledale, living and working in one of the most remote places in England, where she has been for more than 25 years.
During her talk, the audience will hear how she juggles life as a shepherdess, best-selling author and mother to nine children, all delivered with her trademark energy, humour and charm.
Isabel Hospice Life President Barbara Doherty MBE said: “We are delighted that Amanda Owen will be joining us for what promises to be a most interesting event.
"We will learn more about her unusual life and have a chance to ask all those questions that have sprung to mind whilst watching the captivating TV series.
"Tickets are limited, so please book now to secure your place.”
An Evening With is one of a series of fundraising events that Barbara has organised with the Hospice’s special events committee to mark the charity’s 40th anniversary.
In April, staff and volunteers from the founding days of the Hospice came together with VIP guests including patrons Lord and Lady Salisbury for an anniversary luncheon at Hatfield House, while in June more than £25,000 was raised at an ABBA party night featuring the internationally acclaimed tribute act Thank You for the Music.
The anniversary celebrations continue in November with Isabel’s ever-popular Christmas at the Manor festive fair and lunch at The Manor of Groves Hotel in Sawbridgeworth, and are rounded off later that month by a black tie Snow Ball at Tewin Bury Farm.
