Gilchrist Dorothy Joan (Toonkey) born December 28, 1927 and died Tuesday, January 31st, at Neville Williams House, Birmingham. Beloved wife of Andrew, loving and much loved mother of Ian, Michael, Alison, Martin, and Neil, and grandmother of Robert, James, Rosie, Zoe, Finley, Alison, Andrew, Daniel, and Nico. Funeral service will take place on 12.30pm, Tuesday, February 28th, at Lodge Hill Crematorium, Weoley Park Rd, Selly Oak, Birmingham. No flowers please, but donations, if desired to one of these charities supported by Toonkey in her lifetime: Water Aid, Save the Children, and Sight Savers. Toonkey, as she was universally known, lived in Welwyn Garden City between 1959 and 1986. Her children all attended Templewood School, and she taught there too for a time. She attended St Johns Digswell, and she was a volunteer parent for the 3rd WGC scout troop. Among her many interests were ballet, arts, and the theatre, and she was a long-term volunteer at the Barn Theatre; She also enjoyed archaeology, and participated in digs at Panshanger and Welwyn. She loved Sherrardswood and was a wood warden for many years. In 1986, she moved with Andrew to Birmingham, and continued a life-long love of travelling and hikingYour tribute has been received.
