It may not have ended in the top prize but Brookmans Park Golf Club's ladies were still delighted with their performance in the Pearson Trophy.

The event, which has been running since 1910, features clubs from Middlesex, Kent and Surrey, as well as Hertfordshire.

A total of 149 clubs took part in this year's competition, 34 of them from Herts where the Park side came out top of their section before wins in the semi-final and final crowned them county champs.

The finals day at Highgate Golf Club saw them up against the winners from the other three counties, with Worpelsdon of Surrey their opponents in the morning's semi-final.

Each team was made up of seven golfers and plenty of supporters travelled from Golf Course Road with the team to cheer them on to comprehensive victory.

The afternoon final was against North Middlesex, who had defeated Nizels of Kent in the other game.

It proved a very tight contest with the advantage swinging one way and then the other.

In the end though, it was a close victory for the Whetstone-based North Middlesex.

Club captain Brian Hall said: "The ladies can be proud of their runners-up spot in the overall competition and with many new members coming through the ranks and improving their golf, things are looking good for next year when the team hope to go one better."
