Welwyn Garden City have signed a former Potters Bar Town midfielder ahead of the new Southern League season.

Zak Guerfi was one of Sammy Moore's when the former boss took over at the Isthmian League side in January 2022, scoring on his debut in a 3-2 loss at home to Cray Wanderers.

London born, but of Tunisian descent, Guerfi played for Tunisia’s U18 side when only 16-year-old and was an unused substitute for their national team in a fixture with Iraq, five years ago.

He began his career with Stevenage FC’s academy, but after release in 2017 and short spells with Bishop’s Stortford and Biggleswade United, he spent a season in Swedish football, helping Bodens BK to Division One promotion during his time there.

He spent seven months in Tunisia, playing with the US Monastir club before returning to England.

Brief spells with Braintree, Tonbridge Angels and Leatherhead followed before playing at Potters Bar.

After a season out of football, he is returning with WGC for the upcoming season, becoming manager Marc Weatherstone’s fourth capture of the summer.

He follows Brad Wadkins from Berkhamsted, James Kaloczi, recruited from Kings Langley and another ex-Scholar, Dernall Wynter, who joined from Wingate & Finchley.
