A children's nursery in Hatfield is set to reopen more than 50 years after it originally closed.

Wild Hill Pre-School closed its doors for the last time in the summer of 1973, with its home at Wild Hill Village Hall going mostly unused in the following decades.

But now, Apple Daycare Ltd will reopen the doors to children once again from September 1, providing full-day care all year round.

The last pupil to enrol in May 1973 was Lawrence Baker, who is now director and co-owner of Apple Daycare Ltd.

"The last time I went into the Wild Hill Village Hall was more than 50 years ago," he said.

"I can remember playing under the snooker table in the back room and playing in the woods to the side of the building. It was a very happy time, I made lots of friends.

"I remember if the weather was nice my mum would pick me up from nursery on her pony Sugar. I remember the ride back to the farm in West End Lane, Essendon being rather uncomfortable."

Prospective parents are invited to open days on August 3 and 10, from 10am to 12pm. To book your place, visit www.appledaycare.co.uk/event-info/apple-daycare-open-day-1.
