The daughter of late Royston archaeologist Sylvia Beamon has launched her mum's book, which she completed posthumously.
Sylvia Beamon died in December 2021, at the age of 85. After her death, her daughter Stacey Lambert finished her book, Salt of the Earth: Healing Asthma through Speleotherapy, which accumulates decades of research into how asthma can be treated by underground climates.
The book was launched on Sunday, May 12 at Royston Museum, with more than 50 guests joining in to celebrate Sylvia's life.
Stacey said: "It was a truly wonderful event to remember Sylvia and to mark her achievement.
"This ground-breaking book is the first to be printed in the English language and helps readers to demystify speleotherapy, understanding what it is and how it works to heal asthma.
"Its text is based on decades of Sylvia’s research into salt caves and the benefits of exposure to to the unique microclimates for the many asthma sufferers.
"I want to thank the mayor for attending and all the family and friends that took part to make it such a special and memorable afternoon. Sylvia would be very proud indeed."
Sylvia was an authority on Royston Cave, and first tried speleotherapy in Romania in 1995 to treat her asthma.
Mayor of Royston Cllr Lisa Adams, who was Sylvia's neighbour, was one of the attendees at the launch, in her last official engagement as mayor.
She said: "What a pleasure to have been Sylvia's neighbour at Newbolt for 16 years.
"I miss those days - especially when the sun is shining and we would sit in the garden drinking tea for hours chatting about everything.

"We shared many discussions about the health benefits of the salt caves which I will one day visit.
"When Stacey told me the book is being published I was delighted as Stacey said this was her last wish.
"She achieved it all thanks to her hard work and dedication to her beloved mum."
